The Dangers of Idolizing Psychic Talent!

All Posts, For Budding Psychics, For Sitters

Idolizing those with any type of exceptional talent is common. Maybe they are actors, athletes, dancers, writers, scientists, or musicians. No matter what they do, it is their exceptional skills that we respect and may even find inspirational. Recently I observed a woman who was idolizing someone with exceptional Psi-related talent – idolizing him to the point that she thought this man to be a holy divine being sent by God. I was deeply disheartened by her point of view as it shows a true lack of knowledge and understanding regarding psi processes, and it is this misinformed awareness that creates dangers for everyone involved. As a result, I want to take a few minutes to address the dangers of this kind of thinking – regardless of who or what we are idolizing.

Danger #1 – All of us are bestowed with talents and abilities, each unique to our person. As a result, certain people exhibit high levels of psi-potential. This is indeed a gift, but it is no more divine than any other God-given gift. We all have been given ‘divine gifts,’ but viewing psi-related abilities as somehow divine or Godly sets up the practitioner as being more than human. Psychic practitioners of any kind are not divine or holier any more than any other person. In fact, I would argue that there are plenty of divine and holy people who exhibit little to no psi. Conversely, there are some people who exhibit a high degree of psi but are less than ethical in its usage. We are all merely people, psychic or not, exhibiting natural skills and talents that support our life purpose. It is how we use our God-given talents and abilities that make us into more divine beings.

Danger #2 – Seeing psi abilities as divine or holy keeps us from embracing our own psychic potential. Everyone has the ability to utilize psi. When we idolize this in others, we’re not embracing our own potential. Just because someone isn’t currently aware of their psychic abilities doesn’t mean they doesn’t exist. It simply means that it is not as obvious and must be cultivated. When we believe that someone is “gifted” by some mysterious grace of God, then we fail to see the ability as natural, and as a result, one we too can consciously develop. You can read more about this in the post entitled, Is A Naturally Born Psychic Better?

Danger #3 – The psi PROCESS itself is not divine. Instead, it is a very natural part of our design, and something that is available to everyone. But yes, utilizing our psi can connect us to departed spirits and spiritual concepts. However, we must bear in mind that even an atheist can utilize psi. Belief in divinity, spirituality, or life after death is not a precursor for psychic functioning. This is a false assumption that leads us to believe that unless we develop a certain spiritual or religious point of view that we can’t be psychic. Idolizing those with psychic talent is an indicator that we may not understand that the process is natural rather than spiritual.

Danger #4 – Similar to the previous danger is the notion that anything we don’t understand is often categorized as spiritual or divine. Mystical abilities and experiences have often been attributed to the spiritual domain – both evil as well as divine. However, this view makes psi functioning seem a spiritual gift as opposed to the natural process that it is. We need to be careful to understand that just because it seems mysterious does not mean it does not have rational explanations for how it works. It just means we don’t yet have all the answers.

Danger #5 – Idolizing anyone for anything, no matter what it is, gives away our personal power. There is nothing wrong with appreciation and being inspired by someone, but there’s a fine line between appreciation and obsession or adoration. Yes, appreciate the talents and abilities of others, but spend time also appreciating your own talents and abilities. If you are worshiping someone else, regardless of what you are worshiping them for, then you are putting someone else on a pedestal and making yourself “below” them in some fashion. You are never below anyone else. You are you, and you are just as amazing!

Danger #6 – Idolizing anyone with psychic talents puts the practitioner in a position of power, and power can be abused – most especially on those who are doing the idolizing. This danger, therefore, is one that the ethical psychic needs to guard against – not just the one doing the idolizing. If you are a psychic practitioner and see someone revering you in a way that is not healthy or is misinformed, then the ethical thing to do is to educate them so that they do not place you or themselves at jeopardy. Unfortunately, some practitioners rely on this idolization – both as a form of repeat business, as well as to feed their own ego.

So to summarize;

Psi functioning is a very normal natural process that all people have the ability to cultivate and utilize. The fact that some people more readily exhibit the ability merely speaks to an innate aptitude, but it does not make them more spiritual, more divine, or more ethical than anyone else.

It is true that certain psi abilities may appear mystical and sometimes deal with spiritual matters, but even those who are not spiritual can develop and utilize psi processes.

Cheers & Wellness,

Carol
