Even if you believe God or a Higher Power is the guiding force in your life, you still have to take the ball and run with it in order to find success. If you aren’t reaching your goals, then are you missing a critical step in helping you win at the game of life…
Do you find yourself constantly thinking and talking about what you want, but never getting there?
Do you have a dream that feels out of reach?
Are you always praying and asking for help, but feel as if you aren’t getting an answer?
Assignment #1: If you answered yes to any of the above questions, then take a moment and don’t focus on the actual dream itself. Instead, what action steps have you taken thus far?
I recall a time in my life when I was praying and incessantly asking for God’s help. It seemed a constant dialogue. Help me lose weight. Help me to be more kind. Help me to get the new job. Help me to be a better psychic. Help me to be happy and to heal. Help me to finally get the home of my dreams. It was all a never-ending barrage of begging for the fulfillment of my hopes and desires.
There’s nothing wrong with asking for these things, or asking for help. In fact, asking is a critical part of the process, but where you might be failing to find success is in doing your part – and this requires ACTION!
When you turn to your version of a Higher Power, you are always heard – always! The problem isn’t in the asking, the problem is in thefollow-up – in the doing. So ask yourself, are you doing, or are you just making the same requests over and over again – thinking that if you ask again you’ll finally be given what you want?
Anything you desire will only come to you through some form of action on your part. You have to do something to get what you want. Sadly, some people fail to acquire their dreams because they are afraid to act, or perhaps even too lazy or afraid of change – and yes, I said lazy! I don’t know of anyone who achieved their goals without hard work, and let’s face it – hard work is – well – hard! There’s comfort and safety in doing nothing, even though we inwardly desire more.
Do you expect things to just be handed over to you without you doing your part?
And by the way, thinking about what we want and continuously mulling it over is not action. This is contemplation, and while contemplation is valuable – it is not action. We tend to say “I am thinking about it” as if somehow the process of thinking indicates we are moving towards our goals, but in truth, this is a stagnant state of being.
I often run into people who desire a dream – sometimes myself included. We all have big thoughts, big hopes, and it’s warm and beautiful inside our dreams. However, we’re also often on the sidelines watching our dreams play out in the field of our imagination. It’s comfortable and safe as we cheer from the sidelines, but the real thrill is getting out onto the field and actually getting involved. Are we going to stumble and fall? You bet. Do we need teammates to help us succeed? Of course we do. But we won’t win the game and achieve our dreams if we don’t take the ball and head for the goal.
Stop talking about what you want, and get to doing. TAKE ACTION NOW!
Assignment #2: What action steps do you still need to take to move towards your goal? It must have a tangible result! Can you make a list of to-do’s, create a budget, find a domain name, outline a business plan, take a course, consult a professional, buy something that supports your dreams, read a book?
So you say you don’t know what action to take? I’ll bet you actually do! We all know what needs to be done. We’re typically just avoiding any action because of fear.
Assignment #3: Here’s a great “action step” – make a list of what your fears are regarding your goals and then for every fear find at least two ways you can overcome them.
