What Do You Say To People Who Do Not Believe In Psychic Abilities Or Mediumship?

Psychic and mediumship abilities still aren’t a mainstream idea, so what do I say to people who don’t believe in these skills?

First, that I understand how they feel because I once felt as they did. However, I also tell them about my unique story, my unusual experiences as well as my search for answers and the field of Parapsychology. Because I was not born with any Psi awareness and they just kind of happened ‘to me,’ my life has been about the pursuit of learning and understanding. What I have discovered is that psi is in fact very real and there is ample science to support this, even if it is not yet mainstream.

The second thing I would say is that I am not here to argue or prove anything to anyone. I realize people will be skeptical and have questions, and I am happy to have an intelligent and rational discussion about it. People are free to disbelieve as long as I am free to believe. I do not need to be ridiculed or belittled for what I stand for, because it is my reality. I am causing no harm and ask for the respect to have my beliefs just as others want the respect to have theirs.

The third thing I would say is that until someone has examined the field of Parapsychology, please do not tell me something is fake. If you haven’t studied the science, then you are making an uninformed statement. Despite perception, parapsychology is an actual science and many people in other areas of medicine, psychology, anthropology, and neuroscience are exploring the issue of consciousness and survival beyond death. There are countless highly respected professionals who tell amazing stories and provide overwhelming evidence that hints at psychic ability, the potential of survival as well as the ability for consciousness to function beyond time and space. I will happily discuss this with people, but to make an uninformed statement such as ‘those things aren’t real’ without providing valid reasons for why, is not an argument. It is an uninformed opinion.

The fourth thing I would say is to be sure that you are skeptical and not pseudo-skeptical. There is a difference. Skeptical means you are asking questions that lead to the truth and are willing to examine all of the possibilities, even if they are hard to believe or accept. This is the pursuit of truth, and we should always consider all of the options and potentials regardless of our personal beliefs. On the other hand, pseudo-skepticism is not the pursuit of truth but rather the need to reinforce one’s personal beliefs. Pseudo-skeptics tend not to be able to have a friendly debate about issues but rather vehemently defend their positions without considering alternative possibilities.

Finally, I would say that being a disbeliever is fine, but just remember, with this state of mind you will never know anything different. Again, there are countless experiences and experiments that show that consciousness is capable of doing strange things that we just don’t understand or can explain, but just because we can’t explain it doesn’t mean that it isn’t happening. Being open is the first step in taking this exploration, but you get to choose if you want to remain open or stay firm in your views.

Cheers & Wellness,

Carol
