Is There Anything I Need To Do Before And During A Session With You?

All Posts, For Budding Psychics, For Sitters

Yes, there are a few things you can do to help the process, but overall, most of the burden falls to the psychic, medium, and of course those in Spirit.

If looking for a mediumship session, the first thing you can do is INVITE several people in spirit who you would like to show up during the session. The reason I say to pick several is because there is no guarantee that who you want to speak to will come through. I address this issue in another post:  “Why Didn’t The Person I Wanted To Talk To Come Through?” Although I firmly believe spirit knows that you have an upcoming session, it’s always a good thing to invite them just in case.

The second thing you can do is try to RELAX. I know this may be tough, especially if it’s your first time utilizing a psychic or medium. There is nothing to be afraid of, and yet many people are. That’s ok. Then again, maybe you’re not afraid but instead are anxious or even full of hope and expectation. You may even be skeptical and distant. Either way, all of these feelings are actually quite normal, so it’s ok to have them. However, it is helpful for you and for the psychic or medium if you can be open and as relaxed as possible.

The third thing you can do is BE A GOOD Sitter.

This first involves Being Respectful of the psychic or medium. There’s nothing harder than trying to talk to a spirit or work psychically with a sitter who cuts you off or disrupts the process. That’s not to say you can’t speak or even ask questions. In fact, you need to be an active part of the process, but let me give you an example of what I mean.

At the very beginning of a session, I began getting information from a spirit, but it was for someone the sitter did not know or couldn’t identify. Within the first five minutes she abruptly told me she didn’t know who it was and that she didn’t want to talk them and to go on to someone else. Needless to say, I was so caught off guard by her curt response that the rest of the session was virtually impossible. It did not go well and I suggested she contact another medium. She was not charged for the session.

Obviously, there are times when the sitter may not know who is coming through or the medium is just not accurate. There are a variety of reasons for this discussed in the same post listed above. It’s important that you always be honest with the medium if you don’t know the spirit, but reserve judgment until you have allowed the medium to complete the contact. There are times the spirit is for another living person or is someone forgotten or unexpected. The spirit may also have a very relevant message that matters to your life, even if you do not know who they are.

As psychics and mediums, this work is challenging. It takes practice and development, and let’s face it, if everyone could do it then psychics and mediums would be commonplace. You don’t have to believe in the process or even in survival, but you can at least be respectful. This really helps ensure that you will have the best session the psychic medium can possibly provide. It’s certainly ok to ask questions and in fact I personally encourage questions, once I’ve done my part of the reading. So if possible, help the process by being respectful even if you don’t fully understand what’s taking place, or how.

The second aspect of being a good sitter is Don’t Over-Share Information. It’s understandable that we want to talk about our loved ones and our personal challenges and circumstances, and there will be time in the session to do so, but it should be reserved for the end of the reading when the psychic medium indicates that it is ok to share. Most psychic mediums will instruct you on what to do prior to the session, but it is common that only responses such as yes, no, maybe, I don’t know, I understand, I’m not sure, can you clarify, and other simple replies should only be used until such time as the evidence has been fully given. It is the job of the psychic medium to give you the information and this is much easier when you limit additional information during the session. Not to mention any psychic medium asking for more should raise some flags for you about their skills. That’s not to say the psychic medium won’t ask for certain clarity about what they’re getting but they should need you to give information that they can then expand upon. Be engaged by cautious.

A third aspect of being a good sitter is to Be Patient with the Process. The information received during mediumship ‘drops in’ like puzzle pieces – each needing to be put into place one bit at a time. The medium gathers these pieces and shares them until they finally create a picture of who is speaking and what needs to be shared. Gaining these bits of information should happen fairly quickly but it also doesn’t just happen in the first five minutes.

You will also find that there will be gaps of silence or momentary pauses during the session. The medium needs time to receive and interpret what they are getting and then they have to properly deliver that back to you. As a result, the session isn’t just a conversation – it’s a translation. In addition, if you can be patient and resist the temptation to add information, then just think how much more powerful the session will be when you let the medium and the spirit unfold the story for you.

If there are any additional instructions you need prior to or during the session, then the practitioner of your choice should let you know. Otherwise, it is a fairly simple process.

I also encourage you to download the following free brochure from the Windbridge Institute, entitled Receiving a Mediumship Reading: Recommendations for Sitters. It provides some great do’s and don’ts for sitters.

Cheers & Wellness,

Carol
